Dashi Stock

Though it may seem like there is no flavor, trust me it is a flavorful soup. There really are no substitutes for these ingredients. Both can be found in Asian stores.

Importer Recalls Italian Salami Products Not Presented for Import Reinspection

Ferrarini USA, Importer of Record in San Fernando, CA, is recalling approximately 15,118 pounds of salami products that were not presented for import reinspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Saturday. Import reinspection by FSIS is required before an imported product is eligible to enter commerce.

The products subject to recall include:

Product NamePackage Type/SizePackage Code
Salame Emilia Ferrarini LogBoxes of 5 logs weighing 7.7 lbs. each.60516 3222 3208
Salame Parma Ferrarini LogBoxes of 5 logs weighing 7.7 lbs. each.60518 3224 3295

Each box bears the code “IT G4279 CE” inside the Italian mark of inspection, though individual logs may not. The products were shipped to distributors in Arizona and California for further distribution to retailers.

FSIS import inspection staff and the import house discovered the problem when the shipment was not presented for reinspection as scheduled. FSIS and the company have not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall should contact Grant Linebach at (818) 256-1622.

Pickled Daikon With Carrots and Jalapenos

The recipe was inspired by the daikon kimchee pickles that are served at the start of a Korean meal. These are great served on the side or sliced up in sandwiches or salads. They can be eaten as soon as they're chilled, but the flavors improve after a few days. From Vegetarian Times magazine(July 2008)

Asian Chicken and Bean Thread Noodles

This is a great, lite dish. It's also very filling. If you want a lite dinner with a great Asian flavor you will love this one. My husband isn't crazy about bean thread noodles so if you aren't crazy about bean thread noodles try substituting thin spaghetti noodles. It still has the same great flavor!
