This voluntary recall is the result of a routine sampling program conducted by FDA in the retail marketplace which revealed that a 10-ounce package of Fisher brand chopped walnuts contained Salmonella.

Consumers who have recently purchased the items with the BEST BY DATES listed in the table below at retail stores located nationwide and in Puerto Rico should not consume this product and should return it to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (e.g., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
