Three complaints from consumers who said they found pieces of blue plastic in Perdue Harvestland organic chicken sausage prompted Perdue Foods LLC to recall more than a ton of products.
The Gainesville, GA, company posted the recall Saturday, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. Only one product — organic Italian chicken sausage links — is subject to the recall.
Consumers are urged to check their homes for the recalled chicken sausage.
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” according to the recall notice.
The recalled organic Italian chicken sausage, packaged under the Perdue Harvestland brand, were produces on March 27. Only 24-ounce plastic packages containing eight chicken sausage links with the package code 64405 and a sell- or freeze-by date of “6/25/17” are subject to the recall.
“The products subject to recall bear establishment number ‘P-2617’ inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a retail distributor in Connecticut and Maryland,” according to the recall notice.
