This is one of four varieties of Fjord Laks branded fish currently under recall.
For the third time this year Fjord Laks brand fish is under recall by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, this time for potential presence of the bacteria that causes botulism poisoning.
A&E Distribution Inc. sent the recalled salmon and rainbow trout to retailers in Quebec, according to the recall notice on the CFIA website. The company’s two previous recalls this year, in January and April, were for marinated gravlax salmon that was potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
In a July 4 recall update, the CFIA reported the recalled Fjord Laks brand Scottish smoked salmon has the potential to have dangerous bacteria growth if it was sold refrigerated.
“Check to see if you have recalled product in your home. Recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased,” Canadian health authorities said in the recall notice. “If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.
“Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.”
No illnesses had been confirmed in connection with the recalled salmon as of the July 4 recall update.
