Mushroom soup recalled in Canada for potential botulism

Raices Food Inc. is recalling Verano Food Purveyors brand Mushroom Soup from the marketplace because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), no illnesses have been reported. The recalled soup was distributed in Nova Scotia.

The public should not consume the recalled products described below. Anyone who thinks they became ill from consuming a recalled product is advised to consult a health care provider.

Anyone with recalled products in their home should either throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

This recall was triggered by CFIA inspection activities. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.
