Whole-wheat flour sold at H-E-B stores recalled for possible mesh pieces

The Morrison Milling Company of Denton, TX, has recalled the following product: 01100, The Baker’s Scoop HEB 100% Whole Wheat Flour, Net Wt. 5 Lbs. (2.27 Kg.), UPC 4122019322, Best By 021418 DIT 6236 and Best By 021518 DIT 6237.

The recall was initiated due to the possible presence of soft nylon fragments of mesh resembling white hair and caused by a faulty screen at the company’s production facility. The problem was detected internally by its quality department during a routine production line check.

Foodborne foreign objects may cause injuries such as choking. The severity and type of injury a consumer might experience depends on the size and shape of the foreign object.

The company stated that there have been no consumer complaints, illnesses or injuries reported to date associated with this incident. Adding that no nylon “hairs” have been found in any finished products, Morrison Milling noted that it was taking this voluntary action from an overabundance of caution.

The potentially affected products are distributed through retail H-E-B supermarkets, which are located in the Southwestern region of the U.S.

Consumers who have purchased the product with the above “Best By” dates before Sept. 8 can return it to its place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call the company’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-847-5608 or email customerservice@chg.com for more information. Morrison Milling stated that its customer service desk will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday.

Morrison Milling announced a recall in December 2015 of cornmeal and various cornmeal products due to the possible presence of fragments of flexible metal mesh caused by a faulty screen at its production facility.
