Smoked maple syrup salmon sold in Quebec recalled for Listeria

Atkins Et Freres Inc. Thursday recalled Atkins & Freres brand Smoked Maple Syrup Salmon from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product.

The recalled product has been sold at the Atkins Et Freres Inc. retail store Mont-Louis, Quebec. All codes sold of the Syrup Salmon with a Uniform Produce Code of 214128  between June 6 and June 12, 2016 are subject to the recall.

No illnesses are yet associated with the recall. However, the he Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.

Anyone who thinks they’ve became sick from eating or drinking a recalled product, call your doctor. CFIA advises Canadians to check to see if they have recalled products in their homes.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

Armour recalls animal crackers for undeclared peanut residue

Armour-Eckrich Meats LLC of Lisle, IL, has announced that it is voluntarily recalling Armour® Snackmakers Keebler Animal Crackers because they may contain flour with undeclared peanut residue.

While consumers with severe peanut allergies should avoid the recalled products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that the amount of peanut exposure from the flour is low and not expected to cause adverse health effects in the vast majority of consumers who are allergic to peanuts.

The company stated that it has received no reports of related illness to date and is taking this action out of an abundance of caution.

The following recalled product was distributed nationwide: Armour® Snackmakers Keebler Animal Crackers, UPC Code 27815 00240, 2.7 ounces, with a sell-by date of 07/29/16 – 8/30/16 (located on the side of the package).

No other Armour® Snackmakers products are impacted by this recall. Armour® is asking that people who purchased affected product discard it and contact the company for a full refund.

Consumers with questions can call 1-877-933-4625, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. ET.

There have been several recent recalls involving undeclared peanut allergen in flour. Some of these recalls have been linked to flour provided by Grain Craft of Chattanooga, TN, which recalled its product.

Mars Chocolate North America has announced a voluntary recall of certain varieties and limited dates of production of its Combos snacks. Mars joins Kellogg, Frito-Lay, and Hostess in initiating a recall of its snack items after its supplier, Grain Craft, recalled certain lots of wheat flour that have the potential to contain low levels of peanut residue.
