Chicken Sausage Products Recalled for Possible Plastic Pieces

Kayem Foods of Chelsea, MA, is recalling approximately 59,203 pounds of fully cooked chicken sausage products that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Monday.

recall 066-2015 labelsThe chicken sausage products were produced on various dates in March 2015. The following products are subject to recall:

  • 12-oz. packages of Trader Joe’s brand “Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage” with the case code 9605 and use by/freeze by dates of “4 22 15,” “4 25 15,” and “4 29 15.”
  • 8-oz. packages of al fresco brand “Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage” with the case code 9709 and use by/freeze by dates of “JUN 13 2015” and “JUN 20 2015.”

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “P7839” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered after the firm received complaints from two consumers who found small pieces of plastic in the product.

Neither the company nor FSIS has received reports of any injuries associated with consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
