Clif Bar & Co. is recalling an unrevealed volume of its energy bars because fragments of plastic have been found in some chocolate hazelnut Nut Butter Filled bars.
Only the chocolate hazelnut butter flavor of “CLIF Nut Butter Filled” energy bars is under recall. The recall covers individual bars, 12-count “caddies” and cases, according to the recall notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
The company did not provide any details on the number of bars under recall or where they have been distributed. The FDA is barred from making such information available to the public because of federal law protecting “confidential corporate information.”
The recalled bars can be identified by the following label information:
- Individual bars of Chocolate Hazelnut Butter CLIF® Nut Butter Filled energy bars with “best by” dates of 10JUN17N4 or 11JUN17N4 and a UPC number of 7-22252-26800-6;
- 12-count caddies of Chocolate Hazelnut Butter CLIF® Nut Butter Filled energy bars with “best by” dates of 10JUN17N4 or 11JUN17N4 and a UPC number of 7-22252-36800-3; and
- Cases with the UPC number 00722252-56800-7.
The company is asking consumers to return product to the store where purchased to request an exchange or full refund. Affected product should then be discarded and not consumed. Consumers with questions may call 866-967-9776.
