The Post recall is one of dozens related to sunflower kernels and seeds supplied by the Toronto-based SunOpta, which began recalling products May 4 because of Listeria monocytogenes. The Post recall on the Food and Drug Administration website is dated June 3, but it was not distributed until June 10.
Post Consumer Brands, Lakeville, MN, is recalling only one variety of cereal. No other Post products are implicated.
The recalled Great Grains Protein Blend – Honey, Oats & Seeds cereal was distributed nationwide. Only certain “Best when used by” dates are included in the recall
Only Great Grains Protein Blend – Honey, Oats & Seeds cereal boxes with the above best-by dates are included in the recall.
“Consumers should not consume these products. Products may be returned to the point of purchase for a refund or discarded,” according to the recall notice on the Food and Drug Administration website.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
